International Literacy Day Done Right!

LFL

A Little Free Library (LFL) was installed in front of the International Literacy Association’s (ILA) Barksdale Road headquarters on Tuesday (September 8) to celebrate International Literacy Day. ILA’s mission is to make literacy available globally, while LFL’s mission is to make books available to everyone. For this reason, ILA and LFL teamed up to allow community members to borrow, return, and add books to the small, birdhouse-like box mounted outside their business. {There are now more than 20,000 LFL worldwide.}

The article ends by saying ILA recently went through a branding change, now focusing more on literacy (“being able to comprehend and form opinions about information”) rather than strictly “reading.” With this, the company’s name changed from International Reading Association to ILA, a change requested by multiple teachers.
